About

The Everett Lab

The Everett Lab, led by Estelle Everett, MD, MHS, is dedicated to advancing diabetes care through cutting-edge clinical and health services research. Our mission is to close gaps in care and ensure that all individuals with diabetes, regardless of health literacy, income, or background, can benefit from the latest advances in treatment and technology.

A central focus of our work is improving access to and effective use of diabetes technologies, including insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). While these tools have been shown to significantly improve diabetes outcomes, their uptake in real-world settings remains uneven, particularly among those who historically have poor diabetes outcomes.

We conduct research that is multi-dimensional and patient-informed, examining a broad range of factors that influence technology adoption and sustained use. These include patient-level experiences and preferences, healthcare system barriers, policy, and the psychosocial and behavioral contexts in which people manage their diabetes. Our work also considers how differences in access to care and technology reflect broader issues in diabetes care.

Through this research, we design and evaluate interventions and implementation strategies that are grounded in real-world practice and centered on the lived experiences of patients. Many of our projects focus on individuals with poorly controlled diabetes, those who are most in need of innovative, personalized solutions.

Based at UCLA, the Everett Lab takes a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, partnering with community health centers, academic researchers, health systems, and patients to co-create research that leads to actionable, data-driven improvements in diabetes care.
