Katayoun was born and raised in Iran, where she completed medical school before moving to the United States to pursue her residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She is currently an endocrinology fellow at UCLA. Outside of medicine, she has a passion for languages and currently speaks three. She is also an avid fan of audiobooks and podcasts, and enjoys spending her free time hiking, swimming, listening to music, and salsa dancing.
